If you grew up in the 90s, no doubt you would have encountered them at some stage in your sartorial journey, the dreaded pleated pant. Yes, they’re back! I remember sporting baggy, double pleated trousers back when it was MC Hammer time. Come early noughties, I pretty much replaced all my pleated trousers with slim fit, flat-front pants when the trend finally went to fashion purgatory. At that stage, the pleated pant became the territory of Dads who played golf… And I’m not talking about the Adam Scott variety!
As with anything in fashion, trends that go full circle don’t normally come back in its original form. It comes back tweaked, to ensure you look more progressive rather than a #throwback. The new pleated pant has deeper pleats, a tapered silhouette, taking on a relaxed modern vibe. It’s only a matter of time before it becomes a staple in our wardrobes again, another option to add to your trouser repertoire game. Although for me, I think it already has. In this blog post, I’ve paired my black COS pleated pants with an oversized white COS t-shirt, Zara bandana and black Prada creeper brogues.
