The humble chambray shirt has come a long way since the 90s. They’re no longer synonymous with daggy dad attire or the uniform for the working class. Over the past few seasons the popularity of the chambray shirt has increased, and for good reason. It’s versatile enough to be worked with most trends; being a neutral colour, you can pair it with bold prints or bright colours. Tuck it in to a pleated skirt or sequined pencil skirt to add some feminine flair. Team it with pastel pants or primary coloured jeans for a fun, casual day look. When the weather gets cooler, you can switch your cardigan for a chambray and layer it on top of your dress or tee.
The model who I photographed in Melbourne’s Docklands precinct was waiting for her hair to set when I spotted her in her chambray over-shirt. She’s paired it with a grey oversized tee, black skinny jeans and lace-up sandals for a cool off-duty look. I loved her casual vibe; her outfit can be easily achieved and is accessible to a lot of women.
