What’s the best thing about winter? We get to hide in layers of Merino, Cashmere and Angora. The sin of winter comfort eating can be swept under an oversized knit. Like your favourite childhood blanket, an oversized knit acts as security from the icy winter chill. As soon as the mercury drops, I can’t wait to layer on a thick cable knit. There’s nothing more luxurious than the feel of fine wool on your skin. The oversized knit is one winter garment that keeps coming back every season.
Marc Jacobs, H&M and Prada model, Frida Gustavsson, who I photographed in Manhattan’s SoHo district, shows us how to work a bold oversized sweater. She’s balanced the top heavy silhouette beautifully with slim bootleg pants, further elongating her gazelle-like frame. I love seeing models off the catwalk and out of the glossies, sans the overly worked hair and makeup. Their natural beauty along with their imperfections can be admired, making them somewhat real.
