her ensemble: cat eye shades

Sunglasses were the one accessory I used to have trouble with. It took me a while to realise which styles suited me. The aim is to balance out your face shape, look for styles that contrast the lines of your face. The gorgeous and fashionable online entrepreneur, Kate Muegel, Managing Editor of Drop Dead Gorgeous Daily, shows us how to work a pair of cat eye sunglasses. These 50s style shades are a fun way of adding personality and retro chicness to your look. I love how Kate has combined her cat eye shades with a studded military shirt and gold statement necklace, it’s tough and pretty all at the same time.

If you are unsure about which frame styles you should be going for, here are some tips on what to look out for based on your face shape:

  • Oval Shaped Face – The envy of all other face shapes, most frames look great on oval faces due to the balanced nature of the shape. Square, rectangular, geometric, round, anything goes
  • Diamond Shaped Face – Up-swept styles such as the cat eye or oval frames to balance and soften your lines
  • Oblong Shaped Face – Go for tall frames that shorten the face. Broad, top heavy frames are ideal
  • Triangle Shaped Face – Look for top heavy styles that balance the width of your lower face
  • Heart Shaped Face – Look for styles that add width to the lower part of your face, avoid frames that sit high and wide. Bottom heavy frames with round edges are a good place to start
  • Round Shaped Face – Horizontal frames with angular lines to sharpen and add length to your face. Rectangular and up-swept cat eye frames that draw attention to the top of the face are ideal
  • Square Shaped Face – Avoid styles that are angular. Go for oval or round frames to soften your look
